Sittercity.com was started by Genevieve Thiers in in 2001. Genevieve spent thousands of hours babysitting while she was in college and knew there was a need for a place where parents could easily find a trustworthy babysitter for their kids.

Genevieve launched SitterCity.com and within six months, the site had spread from Boston to Cleveland and NYC. By 2010, Sittercity had over 1,000,000 babysitters in its database.

Sittercity makes it easy to find the perfect babysitter because you can look at a potential sitter's resume, profile picture and resume online. Many babysitting agencies charge as much as $2,500 per year, but SitterCity cuts out all the overhead and offers their service for as low as $8 per month.
